A greatly expanded, multiauthored revision of earlier editions, with updated information on the taxonomy, classification, morphology, biology, systematics and phylogeny of the Acari, and on methodologies of mite collection, rearing, preparation and preservation.  Taxonomic diagnoses are included for the 124 currently recognized acarine superfamilies, along with keys to their 540 member families.  Feeding habits, host range, and distribution of representative taxa are discussed under each superfamilial heading.  Text information is complemented by many line drawings and SEM’s presented in more than 330 plates, and by an extensive bibliography that includes more than 4200 entries.  Unlike previous editions of the Manual, the new edition is the product of a team effort by ten authors (see above), whose contributions have been amalgamated into a seamless text comprising the following chapters:
